Roger Clemens: Chasing Pud

[Roger Clemens] Last season, Roger Clemens earned 7 wins, bringing his career total to 348, and placing him 8th on the all-time wins list. Yesterday, the free agent announced he will be rejoining the New York Yankees for the remainder of the 2007 season, giving him an opportunity to continue climbing the career wins ladder.

A solid season from Clemens could move him as high as fifth on the all-time wins list. He’s only 16 wins away from the number five spot, which is currently held by Pud Galvin, with 364 wins.

Galvin’s spot may be safe for now. Clemens hasn’t won more than 13 games since 2004. However, 16 wins may not be out of the question, since Clemens now has baseball’s best offense supporting him.

Chasing Pud….
5. Pud Galvin (364)
6. Warren Spahn (363)
7. Kid Nichols (361)
8. Roger Clemens (348)

Roger Clemens will always be a pud to me.

While I’m not a big fan of Roger Clemens either, I’m glad to see that he decided to play for another year. It’s difficult coming up with content for a Web site dedicated to a pitcher that’s been dead for over 100 years. At least Clemens has a few things in common with Pud.
